30 years ago Limerick was overrun with stray, abandoned and abused animals.
Marion Fitzgibbon and a small group of ladies were concerned about this.

So Marion instigated the birth of Limerick Animal Welfare and enlisted the
help of these dedicated volunteers.

Over the years LAW grew into a large animal rescue charity and more animals
needed Marion and her helpers assistance.

Never one to give up on a hope, Marion instigated the establishment of the
sanctuary in Kilfinane, Co Limerick and the setting up of the Limerick City
charity shops to help with the massive amount of funds needed for such an
optomistic plan.

She promoted Limerick Animal Welfare nation and world wide raising un-dreamt
of funds to start Phase 1 of the building project which provided a safe
haven for 20 dogs. The sanctuary and Limerick Animal Welfare continues to
grow (funds allowing!) with her relenting work and now provides safe refuge
for approx 200 animals until a suitable forever home is found.

Marion is an avid beleiver in the neutering and vaccination of animals and
all our dogs and cats are fully assesed and speyed/vaccinated prior to
homing.

As well as the constant voluntary work of rescuing, rehoming and
recuperating these animals, Marion is constantly campaigning for better
welfare for all animals.

She actively encourages the recognition of greyhounds as the wonderful
family pets they are and has forged valuable connections in the UK, USA and
Italy, being fundamental in the rehoming of some of our very lucky
greyhounds in these countries.

Marion lobbies the Irish Government for positive changes in Animal Welfare
both in Ireland and overseas and against their exploitation. She actively
calls for the government to ban puppy farms in Ireland and the exportation
of our animals to countries where animal welfare standards are not
acceptable to those in the "animal welfare and rescue world".

Without her vision, commitment and tireless hard work, Limerick Animal
Welfare would not be what it is today -

Thousands of animals would not have found their new forever happy homes....

I would love to see Marion recognised for all she has done for every one of
them and receive a prize that will assist Limerick Animal Welfare in the
further buidling works needed to complete her and LAW's dream
