PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (CBS) - A New Jersey non-profit is looking to give
Greyhounds a new "leash" on life through an adoption program that matches
the dogs with military veterans.

Captain April Nees is taking home her new dog, Swoop.

"She seemed to be connected to me and seems like we're going to be a really
good match."

They were brought together through the "Hounds for Heroes" program which
allows veterans to adopt greyhounds free of charge.

Bill Brennan is a veteran and volunteer with Greyhound Angels Adoption of
Pennsauken.

"Contrary to popular opinion, the don't need a fenced in yard, they are
typically referred to as couch potatoes because they'll sleep 16-18 hours a
day."

The program is open to retired or active duty veterans and their families
who meet the adoption criteria. More information is available at
