American European Greyhound Alliance (AEGA) updates criminal case pending
concerning the shooting deaths of greyhounds found in a quarry in Ireland in
early April:

Co-Founder of the American European Greyhound Alliance Louise Coleman is
visiting Ireland from The United States having attended the Greyhound Rescue
Association of Ireland's (GRAI) 2nd annual "Walk for Greyhounds" in Dublin
on the 17th. While in the country Coleman contacted Gardia Inspector O'Neill
at the New Castle West Gardia Station and was told that the incident of
greyhounds shot and dumped into a quarry in the southwest of Ireland in
early April is still under investigation with some police interviews pending
before the case will be brought to the DPP for prosecution. The Inspector
stated that this will be a trial test case for enforcing new laws enacted by
the Greyhound Welfare Act of 2012 but that with the backlog of cases it may
not be reviewed until later in the year.

Earlier this year in April multiple greyhounds were discovered shot and
dumped into an abandoned quarry on private property. The ear registration
numbers allowed a tracing back to the registered owners of these dogs. After
much persistence by Marion Fitzgibbon, Co-Founder of the American European
Greyhound Alliance and Director of the Limerick Animal Sanctuary and her
staff both media and police attention resulted in action on the case.
Photographs of the bodies were distributed and published widely resulting in
national and international condemnation.

Coleman commends the efforts of the Gardia in pursuing this case and looks
forward to more media attention as it is brought to court. "Times are
changing in Ireland. Public opinion and enlightenment on the gentle nature
of these wonderful animals which make outstanding pets is growing throughout
Ireland." Coleman said. "We are working hard with many other groups and
individuals around the world to raise public awareness and in turn public
action against those that would treat greyhounds and all animals
inhumanely."
