As a greyhound rescue group we are going through a lot. Chronically broke,
desperate for good homes for our greyhounds and relentlessly educating the
public about the gruelling truth behind the racing industry.

And that is a good day.

On a bad day we get a phone call or email from a trainer or greyhound owner
such as this lady who called in September 2011 about her 22 month old female
dog above. She tells us if we don't take this girl, she will be put to sleep
the next day in the morning. Nothing like a bit of notice!

The poor girl never raced, never been blooded and has a lovely nature.
Trainer will sign her over to someone for free with her papers. Nothing
wrong with her- just not good enough to make it on the race track.

What a shit situation to be in.the greyhound and us of course. We have no
money, no space for this poor creature and can only refer this lady to
another rescue organisation.

Another person contacted us saying that they have a greyhound that was
getting trained to race. Unfortunately, they have also been told that the
greyhound is no good for racing. GAP, the shambles organisation of the
racing industry which re-homes a handful of former racing greyhounds purely
for PR purposes, told him that he has to wait 6 weeks until their greyhound
can be considered to be part of their program. Needless to say, this
greyhound did not have 6 weeks and was presumably put down. Although we made
contact with this person to save the greyhound, we never heard back.

I could go on and on but I find myself getting more and more depressed so
I'll stop. I guess what I wanted to get across with this blog post is that
if you can somehow find it in your heart to help us in any way, it literally
can mean the difference between life and death for a greyhound.
