GREYHOUNDS and lurchers joined their owners to put their best paws forward
for the Great British Greyhound Walk on Sunday.
Now in its third year, The Great British Greyhound Walk involves hundreds of
organised "walks" that are led simultaneously across the nation on the same
day. The main aim is to raise awareness of rescued and retired (ex-racing)
greyhounds, showing the world what gentle, loving companions these beautiful
dogs make.
Local fundraising group Greyhound Friends organised the Milton Keynes,
Caldecotte Lake walk which was enjoyed by 33 greyhounds and lurchers, a
whippet and an Afghan hound. Walk lead Marian said 'greyhounds just love
getting together for social events - and of course so do their owners. Most
of our events involve having fun at the same time as raising funds for the
thousands of needy greyhounds who aren't as lucky as ours.'
Handsome greyhound 'Greg' who is sadly back in rescue kennels since his
lifelong owner recently died, also joined the Milton Keynes walk on Sunday.
Michelle from Greyhound Rescue West of England said 'he is a gorgeous,
cuddly boy who you can tell misses his home life and would really love a new
companion.
