A KILMALLOCK dog trainer has spoken of his relief after his prize-winning
greyhound turned up - at the Mungret Cement Factory.

Our sister newspaper the Limerick Chronicle reported on how Scala Fiona,
owned by Kilmallock man Joe Brazill had broken free from her collar and ran
into the city's night after winning the sixth race at the Greenpark
Greyhound Stadium.

Aged just 13 months old, Joe was fearful she might not be able to find food
or water at such a young age.

But in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Joe's prayers were answered
when an intensive search, with the help of Ballyneety trainer Denis O'Malley
who searched near the Mungret Cement plant.

"The bitch turned up," a joyous Joe told the Limerick Leader when we rang
for an update.

"I was out until all hours looking for her, and I did not get home until
after 2am," he added, "I was over the moon when I saw her."

Scala Fiona made her debut at the Greyhound Stadium on Friday night last,
and won her race in just over 29 seconds.

Joe said she is one of the few greyhounds who has recorded a win on her
first race.

Unfortunately, as Joe was being presented with his trophy, the dog
disappeared.

Joe - who owns 20 dogs - always prefixes his greyhound's names with Scala.

He brought Scala Fiona in Kilkenny.

Asked the value of the pup, he said: "It is very hard to put a price on a
dog, because it is too early. I could not really say. She is just 13 months
old, so she has a bright future ahead of her. It is very unusual for a
greyhound to be this young. She is one of the few greyhounds to win in her
first year."

Race manager Liam Kennedy said instances of greyhounds escaping from race
meetings would be very rare.

"Everything was a new experience for her, and I'd say she just got a bit
scared, and headed for the city centre," he said.

He added the prize-winning pup "would probably be a good breeding prospect
after her racing career was finished."

von meiner Millie ( Schoolgirl Champ ) . Das ich den hier auch finde - so klein ist die Greyhoundwelt !
